I feel the 2 critiques so far reach both extremes. You have a beautiful photo that is almost there. I love the grass in the water interrupting the relatively smooth reflection of the sky. the color of the sunset is spot on. just a few things to address.
For me, the center third of the photo is perfect, while the bottom third is too dark and dull and the top third is over exposed and the top left portion of sky is empty.
I think the best way to improve on the interest and originality of this photo as you have it would be to literally crop out the top and bottom third. If it were in panorama format I think it would make the image more unique.
As I mentioned, the sky is blown out. A graduated neutral density filter, whether physical or digital, could have save you from under exposing the foreground. Still, I think that bumping up the saturation of the foreground could have improved the image at its current exposure.
Finally, many of these issues could have been addressed by not putting the horizon in the middle of the photo. adjusting the ratio of bright areas and dark areas in the composition would have changed the metering of the image to address the exposure issues or removed the under exposed areas, or empty sky altogether.
I do agree that the photograph is a bit dark. However, I feel that adds more to the charm. The mood of the landscape is more sedate or serene, as opposed to bright and sparkling. As a result, it makes the piece very relaxing to look at. The way you captured the reflection of the sky in the lake is beautiful as well. The unevenness gives it a surreal quality, and makes you feel as if you are either about to tip into a mirror, or are in a dream. It also creates an excellent balance between earth and sky. I would brighten the exposure, but otherwise I think it's lovely! Wonderful job!
